RESTAURANTS

Le Club Chasse et Pêche
423 St Claude, (514) 861-1112
Web Site

This is one of my favourite restaurants in Montreal.  The clientele in this very discreet environment is made up of both business people & connoisseurs of good taste. The hunting and fishing theme taken from its name extends to the cuisine, which includes everything from Barramundi to American Kobe beef. The service and the food are always excellent and I highly recommend it.

Europea
1227 de la Montagne St.
(514) 398-9229
Web Site

It's been a few years now since Europea first gained acclaim as one of the City’s top restaurants with its meticulously prepared cuisine melding traditional French technique with a modern twist and local ingredients. Their tasting menu is one of the best I’ve had, and service is friendly & flawless!

La Queue de Cheval

Located in downtown Montreal, La Queue de Cheval is notable for its excellent service and outstanding cuisine. Specializing in dry-aged USDA Prime beef, they also offer the finest selection of fresh fish and seafood complemented by an award-winning wine list.

Winner of several awards, this restaurant has limited seating and is discreetly located on the top floor of the Casino de Montreal.  The superb decor and the fine cuisine make it a definite experience to remember.

Toqué!

This restaurant specializes in market cuisine with new delicacies appearing on the menu regularly depending on seasonal availability.  Each offering from their famous tasting menu will only further pique your senses and leave you anxious for the next. A selection of wine compliments the seasonal menu ensuring that you experience its full potential.

Café Ferreira
1446 Peel St.
(514) 848-0988
Web Site

This is definitely a place to experience the best Portuguese cuisine in Montreal. You can expect the freshest fish and meats pared with a selection from the cellar’s impressive Portuguese wines and ports.  This wonderful spot is truly a must for the refined gourmet looking for something different.

Il Mulino
236 St-Zotique Street East
(514) 273-5776
Web Site

Il Mulino offers not just good northern Italian cuisine, but unparalleled service and exquisite attention to detail. Located in a tiny but cozy little place off the strip in Little Italy, walking into Il Mulino is like taking a step back in time. The service is gracious, the wine list extensive and there is a real passion for food.  Dishes such as roasted baby goat keep the mix of Italian nonnas and high powered businessmen coming back.

Lemeac
1045 Laurier Avenue West
(514) 270 0999
Web Site

A busy French bistro where the food is always good and the service efficient and informal. After 10pm they have a different menu special catering to late diners.

Mikado
368 Laurier Avenue West
(514) 279-4809
Web Site

If you are in the mood for sushi then heading to one of the many Mikado locations is a great choice. The fish is scrupulously fresh, the appetizers are extravagant and the sushi is just fantastic. The place contains a pure jumping sushi bar atmosphere. The dining room is casual but elegant.

Montreal Urban Life

MONTREAL CAFES, RESTAURANTS, BARS AND NIGHTCLUBS

Once upon a time the cuisine most identified with Montreal was that of the Quebecois poor, such as poutine - fries, cheese curd and gravy - or a kind of pastrami called 'smoked meat'. But the French love offood has prevailed, with the added bonus of Italian, Jewish, Portuguese, Japanese and Vietnamese immigration and the riches of North American produce. Even in the economically lean times of the 1990'S, chef/owners, such as Normand Laprise of Toque!, created a contemporary local cuisine using ingredients from their bountiful countryside - and trained up a new generation of chefs whose restaurants now pepper the city. Today, competition keeps innovation as keen as kitchen knives, and the options run from classy and classic bistros, such as Lemeac, to hip foodie destinations, such as Garde Manger and Joe Beef, run by tattooed, rock'n'roll chefs.

Straightforward bars and nightclubs are fairly scarce at the top end - instead supperclub lounges are the big thing, where tables are cleared away at midnight so the DJ can start spinning. There are any number of velvet-rope hangouts for models and their pro ice-hockey-playing boyfriends to choose from on boulevard St-Laurent, where the cuisine is as good as the vibe. Montrealers know their food, they know their wine, they seem French and yet the service is friendly and attentive - so what's not to like?
